Feet first!

Did you know that horses feet actually grow faster in the summer?

Make sure you’re keeping an eye on your four-legged friends feet!

With the warm wet weather, hooves can become cracked and brittle. If a crack develops deep it is known as ‘sandcracks’ which can cause discomfort and farrier issues for the horse.

  • Using a good hoof moist such as the ‘Kevin Bacon’ range or NAF Profeet can help greatly reduce the risk of cracks or breaking. Creating a stronger hoof wall.

  •  Make sure to check your horses digital pulse on each leg. A strong, throbbing pulse can indicate pain or inflammation in the hoof and is worth investing further to rule out bruising/abscess/lami, etc.

  •  Keeping your horse active, whether just a gentle hack or a full schooling session, can help boost circulation in their hooves helping to promote healthy growth.

If you have any worries or concerns contact your farrier who will be able to help answer any questions you have and will be able to help keep your horses hooves as healthy as possible.
